Understanding the Act

The most significant change to building and fire safety regulation in a generation, the Act challenges how all in the construction industry must operate, from clients, principal designers, manufacturers, main contractors to operatives working on site.

Competency standards

Today, CSCS cards display the competency threshold for each occupation as determined by the relevant Standard Sector Body and Sector Representative Organisation, usually an NVQ and the appropriate level of health and safety test.

Future evolution

Soon, it will no longer just be about having qualifications and a health and safety test, but also a culture of the ongoing development of skills, knowledge, experience, and behaviours, as defined by industry.

One Industry Logo

The Construction Leadership Council’s One Industry Logo states that industry, including trade associations, contractors, clients and government, should specify and promote card schemes displaying the CSCS logo with no equivalents accepted.

Since 2015, 37 card schemes across a range of construction sectors – the CSCS Alliance – have committed to the recommendations and display the CSCS logo on their cards.
