Compliance and operational insight

CSCS is a not-for-profit organisation, owned by industry for industry. We work with the CSCS Alliance as licensor to support a safer, more competent workforce and better assurance across the Built Environment. Our approach aligns with the Construction Leadership Council and the Construction Skills Mission Board, with a shared focus on competence, consistency and better use of data.

Two datasets. One clearer picture.

Workforce Insights brings together:

  • Supply-side workforce data across the CSCS Alliance: a rich view of the carded workforce, including occupations, qualifications and training, skill levels, location and age demographics.
  • On-the-ground verification patterns via CSCS Smart Check: what is being checked, where, and what card types and patterns are showing up in real site verification activity.

Combined, this creates clear, usable intelligence for employers, not just another dataset.

What you can learn from digital verification

1) Where compliance is strong and where it is slipping

If checks are consistent on one project and patchy on another, you need to know early. Using site IDs and reason codes for checks, which are coming soon to Smart Check, verification patterns can highlight where assurance is being applied and where it needs tightening.

2) What is driving exceptions and disruption

Expired cards, missing qualifications, mismatched details and last-minute mobilisation are common causes of delays. Seeing recurring patterns helps you fix the process and reduce repeat problems.

3) Whether your skills mix matches the work in front of you

Alliance workforce data gives a baseline view of occupations, levels and demographics. When you overlay that with what is being verified on site, you start to see whether the workforce mix is shifting in the way you expect, and where gaps may be emerging.

4) Evidence you can stand behind

A consistent digital approach supports clearer reporting for clients, audits and internal governance. It reduces reliance on screenshots and spreadsheets, and it helps you show that checks are being done properly.

Why this matters

Workforce Insights and the intelligence from Smart Check is designed to turn verification and carding data into intelligence you can use. That means compliance support and better skills mix insight for contractors and employers.
